The wait is over and the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open is finally here.

Forty tournament hopefuls take to the courts in qualifying action Saturday as they vie for the final 12 spots in the men’s and women’s singles draws over the weekend. Just last year, qualifying wild card Amanda Anisimova not only reached the main draw, but advanced to the DC quarterfinals. Anisimova most recently reached the Wimbledon final last week in England and is now back in the top 10.

TOWNSEND & NGOUNOUE HEADLINE STADIUM COURT

Fresh off a semifinal appearance in the doubles draw at Wimbledon, Taylor Townsend returns to DC and will be among those vying for a spot in the singles draw this weekend.

Townsend, who won the doubles title here last summer and spent part of her youth training at the WTEF, will face World No. 62 Camila Osorio in the first match Saturday on Stadium Court.

DC native Clervie Ngounoue, who enjoyed a memorable WTA debut in Rock Creek Park in 2023, returns as a qualifying wild card. The 2023 Girls’ Wimbledon champion celebrates her 19th birthday Saturday and will face Australia’s Kimberly Birrell in the second match on Stadium Court.

DMV TOURNAMENT HOPEFULS TAKE TO THE GRANDSTAND

The intimate Grandstand Court will have a distinct local feel on Saturday as several ATP competitors with ties to the DMV will look to advance in qualifying.

DC native and JTCC alum Andrew Fenty, Clarksburg Maryland's Adhithya Ganesan and Georgetown grad Jake Fellows are all scheduled to play on the Grandstand while UVA alum and 2017 NCAA Champion Thai-Son Kwiatkowski will play the opening match on Court 4 at 10:00 a.m.

Fenty returns home fresh off earning his maiden pro singles title in June at the ITF Tour M15 event in Rancho Sante Fe, California. The 25-year-old will face fellow American Colton Smith in the opening match Saturday on Grandstand.

Ganesan makes his DC debut against Australian Rinky Hijikata, who will be competing for the first time since reaching the Wimbledon men's doubles final last weekend.

Ganesan had a decorated junior career in the DMV and was the USTA's No. 1 ranked Boy's player in the Mid-Atlantic region in the 12, 14, 16 and 18 age groups. An All-SEC First Team last year, Ganesan is coming off a sophomore campaign at Florida.

Fellows was a senior captain at Georgetown and capped off his season with an All-Big East First Team selection. Competing as a wild card in the qualifying draw, Fellows will face Yosuke Watanuki in the fourth match of the day on Grandstand.

ELSEWHERE ON THE GROUNDS...

The next generation of DMV tennis stars may very well be on display Saturday morning as dozens of kids ages 5 - 12 will have a chance to hit on Stadium Court as part of Kids Day presented by Children's National Hospital.

In conjunction with the USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation and the WTEF, kids will play tennis games and learn new skills from professional players Sofia Kenin, Leylah Fernandez and Jakub Mensik. Participants must be pre-registered to take part.

Other highlights on the grounds Saturday include the main draw reveal which is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Market Square. Fans are invited to watch the draw ceremony as it unfolds. DC native and World No. 48 Hailey Baptiste and rising American Ethan Quinn will both be on hand for the draw ceremony.
