WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Mubadala Citi DC Open, the only combined ATP-WTA 500 level tennis tournament in the world, has announced its first round of player commitments for the 2025 event, including seven top 10 players across both the ATP and WTA tours. The 56th edition of the tournament will take place July 19 - 27 in Washington, DC at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park. The Mubadala Citi DC Open is the fifth largest professional tennis event in the United States, consistently attracting one of the most competitive player fields on the summer calendar.

The tournament’s strong player field already boasts 12 early commitments set to compete in the nation’s capital this summer, including four top 10 WTA players, three top 10 ATP players and four past DC champions, as well as many of the most popular fan favorites.

"We are excited to unveil our initial lineup for the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open, featuring an exceptional group of the world’s best players,” said Mark Ein, Chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open. “With seven current top 10 players and so many of our most popular fan favorites including stars like Frances Tiafoe, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Fritz, Madison Keys, Tommy Paul, Paula Badosa, Nick Kyrgios and Lorenzo Musetti, Washington continues to solidify its place as one of the premier destinations on both the ATP and WTA tours. Ticket sales through the off-season already broke records, and we anticipate another unforgettable summer, with a fifth consecutive year of a completely sold-out event.”

ATP player commitments include World No. 4 and 2024 US Open finalist Taylor Fritz, World No. 8 and 2024 Wimbledon semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti, and World No. 9 Alex de Minaur, a five-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist. Also returning are World No. 12 Tommy Paul, a 2025 Australian Open quarterfinalist, DC native and World No. 15 Frances Tiafoe, a two-time US Open semifinalist and World No. 17 Andrey Rublev, a 10-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist. Rounding out the initial list are 2015 DC Open champion Kei Nishikori, who owns 12 career Grand Slam quarterfinal or better finishes, and two-time DC singles (2019 and 2022) champion Nick Kyrgios.

The WTA field features World No. 3 and 2024 US Open finalist Jessica Pegula, who also won the DC title in 2019, World No. 7 and 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys, World No. 9 and 2025 Merida champion Emma Navarro and World No. 10 and defending DC Open champion Paula Badosa.

Both Musetti and Navarro will make their DC Open debuts in 2025.

“Playing in Washington, D.C., means the world to me. This tournament is one of the reasons I play professional tennis. I used to sneak into this event as a kid, and now to be here competing on court is surreal,” said Tiafoe. “The energy from the crowd, the support from friends and family, it’s incredible. I’m always happy to be home, and I’m so excited to be back there in July. My dream would be to win this tournament.”

The Mubadala Citi DC Open’s ATP 500 competition will include a 48-player singles draw and 16 doubles teams, while the WTA 500 tournament will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. Further player announcements are anticipated ahead of the tournament.

ATP and WTA commitments include:

  • Jessica Pegula, World No. 3: The No. 2 ranked American returns to the site of her first WTA title in 2019 for her sixth DC Open appearance. In 2024, Pegula secured her sixth career title in Toronto and reached her first Grand Slam final at the US Open. She has carried her momentum into the 2025 season, capturing two titles in Charleston and Austin to bring her career total to eight. Pegula also made impressive finals runs in Adelaide and Miami.
  • Taylor Fritz, World No. 4: Eight-time ATP titlist and top-ranked American Taylor Fritz will make his fifth DC Open appearance in 2025, having most recently reached the semifinals in 2023. Fritz had a standout 2024 season, highlighted by Grand Slam quarterfinal finishes at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and a run to the finals at the US Open. He also earned a bronze medal for Team USA in doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, partnering with fellow American Tommy Paul. Beyond the majors, he reached three additional finals, two semifinals and two quarterfinals, closing out the year with a career-high ranking of World No. 4. In 2025, Fritz secured a victory for Team USA at the United Cup and made a semifinal appearance in Miami.
  • Madison Keys, World No. 7: American Madison Keys is set to return to DC for her fifth appearance, this time, as a Grand Slam champion. She kicked off her 2025 season with a title in Adelaide, before capturing her first major victory at the Australian Open. Since then, Keys has reached the semifinals at Indian Wells and the quarterfinals in Madrid. A 10-time WTA titlist, she last competed in Washington in 2023, where she advanced to the quarterfinals.
  • Lorenzo Musetti, World No. 8: Italian Lorenzo Musetti will make his DC debut at the 2025 tournament. His 2024 season was highlighted by a career-best Grand Slam performance, reaching the semifinal at Wimbledon, along with a finals appearance in London (Queen’s Club). In 2025, Musetti has continued his strong form with a finals appearance in Monte-Carlo and semifinal runs in both Madrid and Rome.
  • Emma Navarro, World No. 9: Making her DC debut in 2025, American Emma Navarro has quickly emerged as one of the tour’s rising stars. The former UVA star was named the WTA’s Most Improved Player of the Year in 2024 after capturing her first career title in Hobart and breaking into the Top 10 for the first time. Navarro continued to set Grand Slam personal bests, reaching the third round of the Australian Open, the fourth round of Roland Garros, the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and then semifinals of the US Open consecutively in 2024. This year, she has continued her ascent, winning the biggest title of her career in Merida and reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
  • Alex de Minaur, World No. 9: Australian Alex de Minaur returns to D.C. for the fifth time, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2018. In 2024, he claimed titles in Acapulco and ’s-Hertogenbosch and reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. His strong form has continued into 2025, with a finals appearance in Rotterdam, a semifinal run in Monte Carlo, and quarterfinal finishes in Doha, Barcelona and at the Australian Open.
  • Paula Badosa, World No. 10: Former World No. 2 and reigning DC champion Paula Badosa rediscovered her form in 2024 after a season-ending injury the year prior. Her title run in Washington marked her fourth career win and sparked a strong second half of the season. She went on to reach the semifinals in Cincinnati, Beijing and Ningbo, and made the quarterfinals at the US Open. Badosa finished the year ranked No. 12 and was named the WTA Comeback Player of the Year. In 2025, she has carried that momentum forward, returning to the Top 10 for the first time since 2022 following a semifinal run at the Australian Open.
  • Tommy Paul, World No. 12: American Tommy Paul is set to return to Washington for his sixth appearance in 2025. Last year, he claimed three titles, securing wins in Dallas, London and Stockholm, bringing his career total to four. Paul also made semifinal runs in Indian Wells and Rome, and advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he won a bronze medal for the USA in doubles alongside partner Taylor Fritz. So far in 2025, Paul has reached the semifinals in Adelaide, Dallas and Houston, and made a quarterfinal run at the Australian Open.
  • Frances Tiafoe, World No. 15: Washington DC native and former World No. 10 Frances Tiafoe is returning to play his home tournament for the ninth time. Tiafoe has consistently performed well in DC, reaching the semifinals in 2024 and back-to-back quarterfinals in the two years prior. After his impressive DC run last year, he advanced to the final in Cincinnati and reached his second career Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.
  • Andrey Rublev, World No. 17: Former World No. 5 and 17-time ATP titlist Andrey Rublev will make his fifth appearance at the DC Open in 2025. A consistent contender in Washington, he has reached the semifinals twice and most recently advanced to the quarterfinals in 2024. Last season, Rublev captured titles in Hong Kong and Madrid, and he’s already added another trophy in 2025 with a win in Doha.
  • Kei Nishikori, World No. 62: Former World No. 4 and 2015 DC champion Kei Nishikori will make his long-awaited return to Washington in 2025, marking his first appearance at the tournament since 2021. A US Open finalist and 12-time ATP titlist, Nishikori has an impressive track record in D.C., with two quarterfinal finishes, two semifinal runs, and his title-winning performance in 2015.
  • Nick Kyrgios, Wild Card: Two-time DC Open champion and former World No. 13 Nick Kyrgios will return to Washington for the first time since his 2022 singles and doubles titles run. After being sidelined with injuries throughout the past two seasons, he makes his highly anticipated comeback to this tournament where he’s won twice (2019 and 2022) in just four appearances.

For more than 50 years, the Mubadala Citi DC Open has hosted top tennis talent in Rock Creek Park. The tournament was founded to support Arthur Ashe’s vision of playing a professional tennis tournament in a fully accessible public park. The Mubadala Citi DC Open has continued to build and expand the event, with the goal of positively impacting the Washington community and creating one of the best events in the world. The WTEF, a longtime beneficiary of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, capitalizes on the tournament annually for fundraising and has raised millions for youth programs in the Washington area.

In April 2019, MDE Sports, owned and led by Washington-based venture capitalist, entrepreneur and civic leader Ein, acquired the management rights of the Mubadala Citi DC Open tournament from the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), a non-profit which provides free tennis and educational programs for children in underserved communities. This acquisition secured the Mubadala Citi DC Open’s future in the U.S. and specifically in Washington.

About Mubadala Citi DC Open: The Mubadala Citi DC Open tournament, played in Washington DC, is one of the world’s premier tennis events and benefits the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF). The tournament was founded in 1969 by Donald Dell, John Harris and Arthur Ashe in its current location in Rock Creek Park with a vision of making pro tennis accessible for all athletes and fans in the Washington community. Beginning in 2019, venture capitalist, entrepreneur, and DC native Mark Ein’s organization, MDE Tennis, began managing and operating the tournament under an agreement with WTEF. The organization provides underserved children in the DC area with a safe environment to learn critical life skills both on and off the courts through academic and athletic enrichment. In 2023, the Mubadala Citi DC Open tennis tournament became the only combined ATP and WTA 500 level event in the world on the tour calendar and one of only five combined ATP/WTA tour events in the United States when MDE Tennis secured the rights to the WTA 500 that had played in the Bay Area since the 1970's. MDE has committed and is annually ramping up to provide equal prize money to men and women by 2027, which is six years ahead of the schedule prior to the move. The tournament is also the longest-running professional tennis event at the same site in the United States.
